This year it has been suggested that we return to the camping grounds in Yarra Junction for the 2011 Melbourne Cup Weekend. This is a pleasant venue surrounded on three sides by the Yarra River. There is much to do in the area. Those scone’s with jam and cream in café’s nearby are not going to eat themselves!
Powered campsites will be available, but we will need to act reasonably quickly if we wish to reserve these sites. This park does not have cabins available.
If you wish the Club to make the booking on your behalf, we will need two things:
- A genuine expression of interest for a site at the July General Meeting.
- A payment would be required at the August meeting to book a site.
- If you wish to make your own arrangements, you can do this by contacting the Doon Reserve Caravan Park on 03 59671674 but spaces will become scarce by the end of August.
Below is a satelite image of the well-shaded campground showing how the river winds its way around the park. This venue is only minutes away from the Jarra Junction town centre and probably about a 1-1˝ hour drive for most members, but it is much better to stay there than to simply be a day-tripper!
